Chicago IL, June 2019.  Nutrition support is a specialized practice that requires the expertise of multiple health-care professionals including physicians, dietitians, pharmacists, physician assistants, and nurses. Certification provides an avenue to validate and demonstrate the attainment of the skills and knowledge necessary to provide quality nutrition support care. The National Board of Nutrition Support Certification’s credentialing program identifies clinicians as qualified nutrition support providers and is a widely accepted, visible nutrition support certification with recognition both nationally and internationally.

The CNSC® credential is valid for five years and recertification is achieved by examination. Examination content includes nutrition assessment, clinical assessment, process management, and professional practice. There are 4894 individuals (October 2018) certified in nutrition support by the NBNSC; 93% are dietitians, 2% are nurses, 2% are pharmacists, 1% are physician assistants, and 2% are physicians.
